BioSouth kicks off its first residential training course in microbial fermentation scale-up and downstream processing

This week BioSouth welcomed a group of over a dozen of Singapore’s top scientists to its new production and training facility in Christchurch for a two week residential training course.

BioSouth has been awarded “CMO Startup of the Year” at the prestigious Asia Pacific Biologics CMO Excellence Awards (APBCEA) 2024.

ABIM (Annual Biocontrol Industry Meeting) is the world’s largest and most important biocontrol industry event to discover and unveil new products, debate market opportunities and for companies and institutions to present research findings.

The project itself, “Adaptable phage solutions: an Aotearoa-NZ platform for precision biocontrol for primary industries” has a five-year timeframe and a grant of almost $9 million from the Endeavour Fund.

The 3^rd Biologics Contract Manufacturing Asia 2024 will focus exclusively on contract manufacturing in Asia-Pacific. The conference addresses the growing market for contract manufacturing, the predicted trends in the market, and challenges faced by CMO’s and CDMO’s as well as emerging solutions and opportunities. Taking part will be experts comprising the entire ecosystem, from biologics manufacturing to academia and regulatory aspects.

The fungus Beauveria bassiana is naturally occuring in the wild and acts as an effective control on many pests, from insects that attack commercial crops through to something as timely as bed bug infestations in major hotels. 

BioSouth, Australasia’s precision fermentation and scale-up contract manufacturer, recently moved to new premises. Born out of Lincoln University in 2020, the company had outgrown its original home by mid-2023 and started looking for its own space where it could set about building a dedicated facility to meet growing demand for its services.

The 2023 Food Structures, Digestion and Health international conference was the seventh in as series co-hosted by the Riddet Institute in conjunction with Australia’s CSIRO.

The Annual Biocontrol Industry Meeting (ABIM) is the largest event of its type in the world, bringing together over 1,800 participants from 58 countries around the world. Organised by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture and IBMA (International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association) in Basel, Switzerland, this year it will be the largest yet with over 115 exhibitors.
