The New Zealand Bio Challenge 2025 will take the best and brightest from benchtop to scale-up
BioSouth is proud to support BioTechNZ in the delivery of the New Zealand Bio Challenge 2025. The Bio Challenge will make available $250,000 for New Zealand start-ups, research organisations and universities to take their most promising microbial products from the benchtop to scale-up production.
Prizes consist of production time and ancillary services at BioSouth’s Technology Centre in Christchurch.
First prize is $100,000 in BioSouth services for the overall winner across all categories, but there are an additional three prizes of $50,000 in three categories: universities and research organisations, biopesticides and remedials, and synthetic materials and food products.

Those interested in taking part in the competition should complete an initial registration form. Entries close on 30 July 2025.
After pre-selection, successful candidates will progress to the next stage of assessment. This includes two half-day training sessions where participants will learn how to prepare a technology transfer package to a level required by a contract manufacturer to successfully undertake production at scale.
